Biography

Elizabeth D. Akers, MA, LPC, LLC
Prior to becoming a counselor, Elizabeth had a career as a writer and editor for major computer firms. She is a single parent who has navigated life challenges such as job loss, career change, divorce, and grief and loss. These experiences provide her with the ability to understand many of the problems you may be experiencing. In addition, she has many years of personal exploration that prove invaluable to her work as a therapist.

Elizabeth has worked with clients in areas such as posttraumatic stress, interpersonal relationship, emotional and physical abuse, life transition, anxiety, and depression. Following her passion to make a difference in the lives of trauma survivors, Elizabeth spent a year at the Department of Veterans Affairs counseling clients whose lives were impacted by trauma and served as a trauma counselor to survivors and aid workers following the devastating tsunami in Banda Aceh, Indonesia. She has done research in the area of secondary trauma and compassion fatigue developed as a result of hearing the graphic details of another’s story.

Elizabeth is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and a National Certified Counselor (NCC). Her practice is informed by integrative and person-centered psychotherapy, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and the Twelve Steps. She draws on the elements of these and other modalities to meet your particular needs.
